The province of Newfoundland and Labrador was Great Britain's first overseas colony and Canada's last province, but long before European settlement native peoples thrived in the Bay of Exploits.

Canoe Hill itself is located at Lower Sandy Point, Laurenceton, and is a place where, over 175 years ago, the indigenous but now extinct Beothuk Indians could watch the movements of the European newcomers. Now you can explore the historic waters they travelled and take in the natural beauty of this special location.

Add a little adventure to your life by partaking in one of Canoe Hill Adventures' guided sea kayak tours. This sheltered bay is filled with islands , sea life, and a long history. See things like the Wiseman's Head fortifications from World War II, the resettled village of Exploits, Ochre Pit Island, the Dildo Run archipelago, and much more.

For a fun learning experience, Canoe Hill Adventures offers a Basic Sea Kayak Navigation course. From the classroom to the water, you will immediately apply the things you've been taught while at the same time enjoying a fun weekend paddling sheltered coves. In 2005 Canoe Hill Adventures introduced Paddle Canada sanctioned Flatwater and Level 1 sea kayaking courses. These courses have been well received and more are planned for the summer of 2009.

If you are an experienced kayaker, and prefer getting out on your own to explore, Canoe Hill Adventures has fully outfitted sea kayaks available to be rented. There are many beaches where you can put ashore to have a lunch, or camp for the night. We'll point you in the right directions and provide support to you along your journey.
